That\u2019s not how it works. Only the portion that falls into the higher slab is taxed at that rate.<br>Another common misunderstanding is ignoring the role of exemptions and deductions. Even if your income falls within a certain slab, your <strong>taxable income<\/strong> may be lower due to various exemptions. That\u2019s why understanding slabs alone isn\u2019t enough\u2014you need to understand how your income is calculated.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What Is Taxable Income?<\/strong><br><strong>Components Included in Taxable Income<\/strong><br><strong>Taxable income<\/strong> is the portion of your total earnings on which tax is actually calculated. These are specific categories of earnings or benefits that the government chooses not to tax, often to encourage savings, welfare, or specific behaviors.<br>Non-Taxable Income include:<br>  &#8211; Exempt amount under section 10 of Income Tax Act 2058.<br>  &#8211; Final withholding payments<br>\u00a0 &#8211; Meals and refreshments on similar terms.<br>  &#8211; Discharge or reimbursement of expenses used for employer&#8217;s business purpose or employer&#8217;s admissible deductions from business or investment.<br>  &#8211; Payments of small amounts<br>               &#8211; Payment of an amount not exceeding Rs.500 at a time as the payment of a small amount in this respect for a provision of  tea,          stationery, gifts, reward, awards, emergency medical treatment or other similar expenses approved by the Department.<br>  &#8211; Special provision of exemption for retirement payment and leave pay\u00a0<br>                &#8211; till 2058\/12\/18) to any natural person as principal, interest and bonus in consideration of employee&#8217;s and employer&#8217;s   contribution in Employees<br>                &#8211; Medical expenses up to Rs.1,80,000 payable at the time of discharge or retirement to that employee who was working on job at the commencement of the Act.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Allowable Reductions, Exemptions, and Tax Credits for Salaried Individuals<\/strong><br>\u00a0<br>Understanding tax doesn\u2019t stop at knowing what is taxable and what is not.
