Getting a personal tax clearance certificate online in Nepal is now easier through the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) Taxpayer Portal. Eligible taxpayers can now view, download, and print the certificate online without visiting the tax office. The IRD currently provides online tax clearance services through its Taxpayer Portal.
What Is a Personal Tax Clearance Certificate?
A personal tax clearance certificate also known as Kar Chukta Praman Patra is a certificate issued by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD). It is a proof that your tax account for the selected fiscal year is cleared or processed as per IRD records.
The tax clearance certificate can be required for several reasons, including visa application, application for a loan, purchase or sale of property, evidence of income, and documentation of your tax compliance history.
The certificate is linked to your Permanent Account Number (PAN) and the corresponding fiscal year.
Who Can Download a Personal Tax Clearance Certificate Online?
The online facility is especially useful for salaried individuals who have single employment i.e, salary received from only one source during the fiscal year and have less than 40 lakhs annual income. If you have multiple employers, business income, rental income, freelance earnings, you cannot download it online.
Also your tax deductions and e-TDS records should also be properly updated on your PAN. If your tax information is incomplete or does not match the IRD system, the certificate may not be available immediately.
What Do You Need Before Downloading the Certificate?
The following documents will be required before you apply for tax clearance certificate online:
– Personal PAN number
– Mobile number and email registered
– IRD Taxpayer Portal
– Income Details
– Deduction details (if any)
If you lack some of these documents, then it will not be possible to download your tax clearance certificate.
How to Get a Personal Tax Clearance Certificate Online?
Step 1: Open any web browser and visit the official websites of the Inland Revenue Department and click on Taxpayer Portal.

Step 2: If you are new to the portal, you have to register first to proceed further. Click on the “General” > “Create Taxportal Login” to register. If you already have registered click on the “Taxpayer Login”.

Step 3: Enter the login credentials like PAN number, email, phone number, create password and click on “Create” This will send an OTP to a mobile number. After entering a valid OTP, the account will be created successfully.

Step 4: Now click on “TaxPayer Login” to login. After login the dashboard will open. Click on ‘KTC’ to update it before downloading the tax clearance certificate.

Step 5: Update the KYT. Fill in the necessary information and click on “Save”. After that OTP will be sent to the mobile number. Enter the OPT to save the KYT.

Step 6: Now click on the “Tax Clearance” section. Login dashboard will appear.

Step 7: Fill the login credentials and click on “Login”.

Step 8: Fill the e-Personal Tax Clearance Declaration Form.

Step 9: Fill the income related information like annual income, CIT, SSF, insurance, allowances, bonus if any to calculate the tax.

Step 10: After calculating the tax the calculation details will be shown at the bottom and click on “Submit”.After submitting it you can download the Tax Clearance Certificate.


What If the Tax Clearance Certificate Is Not Showing?
If your Tax Clearance Certificate is not showing, first check whether your PAN details, income information, and e-TDS records are correct and updated. Your employer may not have submitted your tax details properly, or there may be pending tax payments. If everything looks correct but the certificate is still unavailable, contact your employer or the nearest Inland Revenue Office.
